Six Business-Boosting Social Media Tips to Live By

Over the past decade, the growing popularity of social media has had an immense impact on society. Social media controls the way we view ourselves, others and the world we live in. It’s become more than a casual activity, but a way of life—and a necessary communication tool for businesses. According to 2018 statistics, there are 2.20 billion Facebook users, 330 million Twitter users, 800 million Instagram users and 250 million LinkedIn users. With all that noise, how does a business separate itself from the pack? Here are some tips to take your social media presence to the next level. 

Post more images

If you want your followers to get engaged in your posts, it is crucial that you post more images. Connecting a photo to your post catches the eyes of your followers and stops them in their tracks. Without images, it is easy just to see writing and scroll through it quickly without even reading what the post is about. Adding a picture helps the post stand out and grab attention.

Develop a plan

One post a day is not going to cut it. The more consistent you post, the more likely you will catch the attention of your followers. A key to posting consistently is developing a plan. By planning out what you are going to post ahead of time, it will help you stay on task and ensure that you are delivering valuable content as well as a wide variety.


Just posting here and there is not enough. Interacting with your followers is key when it comes to social media. Liking, tagging, commenting and sharing other posts is all part of the game. If you show the effort to interact with others, they are far more likely to return the favor and show more interest in your account.

Give people a reason to stay

There is most likely a reason people follow you, but it is your job to make them stay. Keeping your followers in the know is a substantial part in getting them to stay. Updating your followers on events and activities that you take part in leaves them wanting more. Give your followers the inside scoop or advantages like discount codes or giveaways.

Keep your profile up to date

An up-to-date profile is another way to keep and gain followers. Think of it this way: if you are looking up a profile and you see that they only post a couple times a month, are you going to follow them? Most people would say no. A profile that is not up to date is a profile that can easily be pushed aside and ignored.  

Know your audience and create a voice

Knowing your audience is key in maintaining a quality social media profile. A good way to get to know your audience is by facilitating participation and observing their like and dislikes. Once you’ve established your audience, create a consistent voice for your social media accounts that best represent your brand. Is it strictly business professional? Are you a fun, young company with a little spunk? Keep an eye on your posts. Which ones are getting more likes than others? Post more of those that receive the most action. Taking the initiative to learn about your audience and creating a voice provides a personal connection and gains their respect.
